Southbury Streetscape
As a center for commerce, Main Street must serve as an efficient traffic corridor, but its broader role as a focus for civic, religious, social, and cultural institutions enables it to symbolize the well-being and humanity of the community. Bennett Sullivan provided master planning for the 3.5 mile Southbury streetscape that is the veritable heart of the community.
Streetscape Master Plan of three miles of Main Street South
With Bennett Sullivan’s guidance from concept through implementation resulted in a vibrant, beautifully landscaped 3.5 mile streetscape that is the veritable heart of the community. The Streetscape walking loop is popular with residents of all ages, who walk and jog along the continuous sidewalk which is illuminated for nighttime enjoyment as well. The sidewalk winds past neighborhood shopping centers, the firehouse, police station, town hall, post office, movie theatre, and two linear parks. The route includes a new town green and gazebo, municipal and educational buildings, and senior living facility.
